AREAS OF ADVOCACY PRACTICENancy Hollander joined Perren Buildings Chambers as an International Member in 2009. She focuses on the criminal defense of individuals and businesses in state and federal courts throughout the United States. Her cases include those involving national security issues. She has also been counsel in numerous civil cases, forfeitures and administrative hearings and has assisted counsel in criminal cases in various jurisdictions in Europe. BACKGROUNDMs. Hollander obtained her Juris Doctor Degree from the University of New Mexico Law School in 1978, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She was the first woman president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1992-93. She is also a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, and is a member of the European Criminal Bar Association. Ms. Hollander has received a great deal of recognition for her work representing those accused of crimes, including being named as one of America’s top fifty women litigators by the National Law Journal, having the highest Martindale-Hubbell “AV” rating, and most recently being chosen as Best Lawyers’ 2010 Albuquerque Criminal Defense: Non-White-Collar Lawyer of the Year. NOTABLE CASESMs. Hollander has successfully handled criminal cases in state and federal courts throughout the United States, including those involving charges of terrorism, espionage, fraud, rape, homicide, narcotics violations, sex crimes, security violations and complex conspiracy cases. She has also been counsel in numerous civil cases and argued and won Gonzales v. O Centro Espirita Beneficente Uniao Do Vegetal, 546 U.S. 418 (2006), a case involving religious freedom, in the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Hollander also served as a consultant to the defense in a high profile terrorism case in Ireland. HUMAN RIGHTS AND TRAININGMs. Hollander has represented two prisoners at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, one completely pro bono and one with the assistance of the John Adams Project of the American Civil Liberties Union. She has taught lawyers and law students in numerous trial practice programs, including the National Criminal Defense College and Gerry Spence's Trial College and at national and international seminars on various subjects including the securing of evidence in international cases, forfeiture, illegal search and seizure, expert witnesses, defense of child abuse cases, ethics, evidence, and trial practice. She has written extensively on these and other criminal law topics. She has coordinated and taught training courses for criminal defense lawyers wishing to appear before the ICC and the ICTY, was the coordinator of a jury trial training project in Russia and has served as a consultant to the United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam.
