AREAS OF ADVOCACY PRACTICE
James MacGuill is a founding member of the International Section of Perren Buildings Chambers. He is a criminal defence practitioner based in Dublin, Ireland. James MacGuill has previously been appointed by the U.N. to appear before the Special Court in Sierra Leone. He is a former member of the Executive Committee of the European Criminal Bar Association and continues to take an interest in their activities. He is a member of the Criminal Law Committee of the CCBE and is a nominee of that body on the Justice Forum of the European Commission. He is a frequent participant in and a contributor to conferences on international human rights and criminal law.

Trial Experience
Since qualification James has practised full time as a solicitor advocate appearing before every level of Court in the Republic of Ireland particularly in the areas of Criminal law, Public law, Administrative/Constitutional law, Judicial Review and Extradition. He has extensive experience appearing before the Special Criminal Court, a Non Jury Court used to try subversive paramilitary crime.
James has been involved in co-operating with lawyers from many foreign jurisdictions in relation to criminal cases, including co-operating with lawyers in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, the Slovak Republic and Panama.
