AREAS OF PRACTICE

Mark specialises in serious crime, appeals and judicial review with a particular interest in human rights law, representing political demonstrators, hunt saboteurs, and asylum protestors. Early in his legal career he represented death row clients in Privy Council appeals. Recently he has focused on serious fraud and larger conspiracy trials as well as taking legal points on judicial review. Since qualifying in 1994 Mark has concentrated on trial advocacy gaining Higher Rights in 1997. Mark has been a duty solicitor since 1995.

NOTABLE CASES

Mark has recently appeared in the High Court and the House of Lords in the leading case on special measures directions for young vulnerable witnesses. He has represented clients in large scale investment fraud, money laundering, benefit fraud, kidnap, drugs and armed robbery conspiracies. Recent Court of Appeal cases include R v Turner on adverse inferences and R v B on video examination in chief of a child complainant. He has appeared in the High Court and on appeal in the Crown Court in ASBO cases. Other judicial review matters include parenting orders, bail pending appeal, part heard trials, delay and abuse of process for young defendants, blanket use of breach of the peace arrest powers, and electronic tagging.
