AREAS OF ADVOCACY PRACTICE

Michael obtained Higher Rights of Audience in the Criminal Courts in 2002 having qualified as a Solicitor in 1997. He has a strong track record of dealing with serious and high profile cases.

He is a specialist Trial Advocate who has undertaken advocacy in a wide range of matters in the Crown Court, from burglary, armed robbery, assault on children, high value fraud through to serious and high level drug supply, enjoying good relationships with both lay and professional clients. He has also successfully appeared as advocate in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division)

In 2007 he was part of the successful advocacy team in R v Collins and ors where proceedings arose out of an enormous enquiry into drug trafficking and the Prosecution case centred on allegations made by a so-called ‘Supergrass’

Notable cases 2008/2010

R v Pyleav and ors - a 6 week trial in which his Client was alleged to have planned a major disturbance at Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre, resulting in over £5m of damage. (Junior alone) Link

R v Pitiyatanakul and ors - Lead Defendant in multi - handed Conspiracy to traffic woman for sexual exploitation case( Led junior) Link

 

R v Hewitt - Undercover sting operation by Metropolitan police padophile unit against 27 year old male. ( Junior alone) Link

R v De Oliveira and ors - Large scale Conspiracy to manufacture passports and other false documents case. (Junior Alone)

R v Chambers s.18 - where Defendant alleged to have bitten off complainants ear. (Junior alone)

R v Parks -  s.18 OAPA 1861 where significant Mental Health issues (Junior alone)

R v Islam and ors - Undercover police operation involving test purchases from Class A street drug dealers (10 defendants). Said to have uncovered the most significant drug dealing operation seen in the ‘East End' of London for years. (Junior alone) Link 

R v Rainey and anr - Attempted robbery of two Off-Duty Police Officers. Link

R v Obafemi Martins - Well-known former Premiership footballer who faced motoring charges. Link

R v Ksenovets and others  - Represented one of 12 Defendants charged following seizure by customs officers of approx 12.5 tonnes of Cannabis resin found aboard a tugboat. Described as one of the biggest Cannabis seizures in British Criminal History.  67 day trial (Led Junior)  Link

R v  Matthews and others - SFO Prosecution. £2 million Investment Fraud alleged to have targeted ex-patriots. VHCC, Trial listed Sept 2009  (Junior led by QC)
